Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

That's awesome.  Amazing to see it from the rider's POV - particularly when they drop back in on the back wheel.

Does anyone know the name of the song used for that clip?
'Sacrifice and hard work is our only secret' - Alberto Contador
'Vinokourov...a lord of cycling' - Andrea Guardini
'As world champion you wear the most beautiful jersey ever for a year. The rainbow stripes have something magical. All great champions have worn them' - Mark Cavendish

Awesome video, thanks for posting!

If we could get that camera angle during actual competition - wouldn't it be amazing? Imagine that during a Madison, or Keirin... :D

replay like that would be brilliant, think it would be a bit too chaotic live.

Haven't heard much of Anna Smeares and Victoria Bitter this time around.

The full list of which nation's participating in what event.

Trinidad earned their two events basically due to Njisane Phillip efforts and also partly down to Quincy Alexander at the Pan American games.

Now even though that would have been the most reasonable choice it still is a shock but even more interesting is the inclusion of German Philip Hindes over Crampton who has been in the set up for a while whilst Hindes is a relative newcomer.

Wrong thread, but I guess the title can be taken in two ways.

In terms of Phillips I think he may still have a chance of making it but never at full fitness, he is a bit of a brat though and acts like a total moron for the majority of the time, but I felt his devastation after missing out last time round so I am still hoping he can make it.

I guess it's official, I am an expat. The Dutch can't stop yapping about Kromowidjojo swimming to gold, and I

a) had to look up how that is spelled
and
b) am far too excited about Chris Hoy getting another gold medal at another olympics to join in with the Dutchies around me

Steve Redgrave, pwah!

Somewhere down the line, Chris has become my local boy. Bring on the next open top bus tour down the Royal Mile. 50,000 folk last time, when the UK wasn't into cycling yet. Could be a great party.

lol at the German on the British team. After years of watching sport in this country im used to most competitors having some sort of background, even being born elsewhere, but ive never seen any athlete representing Britain or England, so German they could not even understand what the interviewer was saying.
Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

Seemed dodgy when the crash took place. Not good. Open ended rules, of course there'll be a tit out there to take advantage of it.

Funny how he denies these comments now, must have had a cleansing session with Team GB brass. Lost in translation, my arse. It's in the rules and he did it, so not really a big enough issue to merit disqualification, even though it isn't in the spirit of competition. Unlike the badminton teams, this was done with the intent to win, not to lose. But it still stinks, and it doesn't look good on squeaky clean David Brailsford that his team had planned to fake an accident if necessary in order to win. Not good at all, and the lack of coverage is disappointing albeit hardly surprising. But oh my, had the French done that and won...
I never called you fat.

Hindes is a bit weird of a weird one. His dad is British apparently, so I'm guessing he was/is Armed Forces based in Germany. His English being so bad I'm assuming that his dad is not around as I'm sure he'd be better spoken then that.

Anyway well done to Hindes, Kenny and Sir Chris. Superb riding in the final. Brink on the TP

As for the Team Sprint why don't they have a best of 3 ala the one on one

The DQs are ahorrible way to win/and lose in a one shot deal. best of 3 would at least spice it up. maybe it's to much to do

well - the first night was pretty feature packed.

Pleased to see the GB team win - they did deserve it.  But deliberately crashing to get a restart  :o  how is that still in the rules?

and I feel for Victoria Pendleton, to be DQ'd ... not fun.

Aussies again went in with the expectation that all they had to do was show up and they would race GB for gold.   :(

it's a bit grey deliberatley crashing to get a restart, or deliberatley crashing to make the problem start clear?

Sprout is correct - Hindes's dad is in the army, but has  a German mother and was raised there, hence his less than perfect English.   As for his crash, from looking at the replay, it's clear  that he had a problem on the start and there is one bit where his body is nearly thrown over the handlebars - and Kenny and Hoy overtaking him even before he had crashed.  Not attempting to exonerate Hindes, and for him to say what he did was quite stupid, but to me at least, looked like there was a genuine problem of some sort.  Clear that the rules need a thorough review - both regarding the crash and the changeover fiasco.

Cav on bbc i enjoyed.seeing, and he made an interesting point about how he was not able to enter do Olympics on the track because he had not done a track meet in years, but track cyclists are allowed to do road race with no road experience.

Meares still isn't listed for the Kerin on the official website. Maybe it's just a mistake but if she really misses out it will give a lot of opportunities for everyone else. Although I still think it's a very open race with at least ~10 riders having a shot for the medals. Vogels is improving a lot, even though winning gold yesterday and having to give interview till midnight might not be to her behalf, maybe having a day off can be an advantage for Sanchez, Krupeckaite and so on.
