Fignon - In my day, doping methods were derisory and the riders´exploits were massive.
For the last 15 years or so  it has been the other way rond: there is a huge number of ways in which riders can dope, and any exploits are derisory.

Wow, not great news but not a huge surprise either.

Looking on CQ he has not raced for a couple of months

Has he been injured or has this been going on for a while?

Carlos Barredo received questions by UCI about blood passport and blood values '07-'11. Rabobank won't let him race untill UCI says he can

José Been ‏@TourDeJose
UCI only asked Barredo questions, which Spaniard answered. it's not a procedure. UCI expected to reply next month

LONDON - Rabobank has its Spanish rider Carlos Barredo already several months laid off. The Spaniard came into disrepute last year when the French sports newspaper L'Equipe published a list of riders on the basis of the biological passport by the International Cycling Union UCI were being watched. On a scale of 0-10 (10 being very suspicious) scored Barredo and Yaroslav Popovych a 10. Also Denis Menchov was a 9 high in the list of suspects.
Since the publication of that list Barredo heard nothing more of the UCI. Indeed, he even went half years no longer control blood. Until a few months ago he received a letter in which he had to explain about his extremely fluctuating blood levels. Barredo took before an attorney in your hand and in cooperation with the Rabobank team a letter was sent to the UCI. So far there is no answer came.
Rabobank did take action by Barredo directly off course to take. Since the Dauphine he will not come into action for the Dutch team. In mid-June, the news came out that Barredo in a fall during a training broke some ribs. That was one of the reasons indicated why he was not in the Tour de France started. While the UCI does not respond to the letter of Barredo, Rabobank will not draw the Spaniard.
"We are one of the initiators of the blood passport. It is logical that we take this action when questions about fluctuating blood levels in one of our riders. However, there is no question of a positive test, nor been a criminal procedure has been started, "said Rabobank spokesman Richard Plugge.

Carlos Barredo received questions by the UCI at the beginning of this summer regarding his blood passport and blood values for the period 2007-2011.

He got the opportunity to provide answers and to defend himself. He was required to send the answers in before the 24th of July. Barredo formulated the answers in close cooperation with Rabobank Cycling Team and sent them in before the required date.

Those questions were informative, there is no procedure.

Carlos Barredo denies in a statement to Rabobank Cycling Team that he is involved in any doping-related cases or the use of banned substances. Rabobank gave him all the support and knowledge needed in providing the answers.

Rabobank Cycling Team rallies behind the blood passport and a clean sport. We will follow all the necessary steps as we have done so far. This means that Barredo (who had some trouble from his broken ribs in the past period) will not ride any races untill we have the UCI’s reaction.

Rabobank Cycling Team co-initiated the blood passport and cooperates in improving it.

Rabobank Cycling Team looks forward to UCI’s reaction to Barredo’s answers with confidence.

This Monday the Rabobank Cycling Team was informed by Carlos Barredo that UCI’s statement will take some time to arrive and is not expected to come before the second half of September.

So he's given a couple of blood controls in 12 months, and all of a sudden gets a passport violation?

Looks like another 2010 retro job to me.

Hard to see this as "the process" and not UCI playing games, with these sorts of timelines.

Can't even decide whether or not to make an incident out of this on Dopeology.org. I didn't create one for the 2010 leaked list because there was no actual incident to report. Think I'll wait to see what, if anything, happens next.

Surprised Rabo went public about it: can only think somebody was asking questions about Barredo's continued no shows and at that point it would be better to issue a clarification.

Most likely reason, or someone has a big mouth and it was coming out anyway.

However it does not look like Rabobank had to suspend him so others could have got similar letters and kept racing, may even be doing so now. If this kind of thing has happened to other riders then it might be a bit unfair on Barredo that he is the one getting all the attention.

Makes me wonder whether there are more riders interviewed/questioned by the UCI, note Barredo had an ultimatum to respond 24th of July, almost a month ago. And today is the first time we have heard of it.

So are more riders questioned? If so why dont the teams make it public?

I thought he did CSS.
Despite the self-serving data benders and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers, even within 'new age' cycling teams. Personally, I don't accept that the 'dark era' has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

“It was all by letter. The questions came in by letter, and Carlos just answered again,” Rabobank spokesman Richard Plugge clarified today, when contacted by VeloNation about the matter.

The team had earlier stated on Twitter that the rider had answered additional questions.

“It's a matter between the UCI and Barredo. But he consulted Rabobank and we helped him with his answers.”

This is what I don't get about the bio passport, you're telling me that Barredo is the only guy in the peloton with a 'dodgy' looking passport? Yeah if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.
