No injury but a bit of a shocker.

Ray Kerckhoffs in Wielerflits says it has been building up since his Giro win in 2017.

Quote
Tom Dumoulin has actually been fighting these doubts since his victory in the Giro d'Italia in 2017. The moment he booked the best victory of his career, he was very happy from the sporting aspect. However, he also changed his familiar life, because he after 28 th May as the champion had to go through life. His changed status was something he didn't want and never started cycling for. The popularity could be stolen from him. As a human being, the 'maglia rosa' even made him partly unhappy.

Since then he has been struggling with the question whether cycling still brings him the desired pleasure. He loves the game to play for the top-tier prizes, but he denounces the level of expectation and pressure placed on him for any match

+ his divorce from Sunweb (frustrations that the team management did not respond to certain wishes and his point of view)

+ knee injury at the 2019 Giro and then 240 days without racing

+ switched to Jumbo which changed some things for the better, but the expectations were greater?

+ a saddle sore at last year's Tour and then bursting into tears post-stage (the one where he rode pointlessly hard for Roglic) which was caught on the NOS cameras for their documentary - Code Yellow[1].
 1. I haven't seen it, but a quick google says "The documentary makes it look like Dumoulin was complaining nonstop and the DS's hated it"

Hard crash in the Norwegian national championships yesterday for #uae Sven Erik Bystrøm. 6 fractures in his back   :S
Probably he can´t race the olympics. For a rider with an expiring contract, in very good shape lately, one might also speculate this might have some consequences for his contract situation.

Joann Ayuso, the baby-giro winner,  already signed a contract and started working with #uae UAE and in my opinion then he shouldn't particiapte in the Tour de l'Avenir. However, I was eagerly anticipating the final 2 days for the  *es Ayuso vs  *no Halland Johannesen rematch.(1 and 2 in the baby giro,, or was that the brother :S)

Sadly, Ayuso has DNF'ed after falling yesterday. I can't find any details in the press so I am posting here hoping that some of you can tell me better what happened....

Nothing broken according to reports. Just battered, bloodied and bruised.
