More MTFs this year and less finishes after descents is my initial impression (I know the route was known a while back, but this is my first time looking at it).

This is my first look at the route as well. I guess the opening week is going to bring us the obligatory crash-fest? Are they looking to whittle away at least 20 riders before the first rest day?

This still leaves me scratching my head:

A total of 2.3 million euros will be awarded to the teams and riders, including € 500,000 to the final winner of the overall individual  classification.

When compared to golf (do those players even sweat?), the difference is staggering. The U.S. Masters Tournament alone, held in Augusta, Georgia every year, offered these payouts in 2022:

    1 $2,700,000
    2 $1,620,000
    3 $1,020,000
    4 $720,000
    5 $600,000
    6 $540,000
    7 $502,500
    8 $465,000
    9 $435,000
    10 $405,000
    ---
    30 $102,000
    ---
    50 $37,800

With a total payout of $15 million in prize money...for four rounds of golf.

I wouldn't advise looking at the Greg Norman/Saudi golf tournaments then. Even more money for less rounds of golf, and that doesn't include the massive signing on fees.

Not these ones, no. However they probably had slightly different ones to their normal ones. More black were they?

Wow what has happened to the social media output.  Is this the year of the very humble brag?  The understated underplaying of any likely impact?

So JV go all in with extremely moderate and very beige ( I wish their kit was) 'We announce a balanced tour selection'  hardly ich bin ein berliner is it.

And now we have LS with the completely underwhelming 'We can play a part'  but of course not everywhere just 'on almost every terrain'

I look forward to Ineos - announcing that they hope to be competitive occasionally over the next three weeks; and that it's really all about taking part.... and may the best other team win

GVA isn't too happy about missing out. He's probably wondering why Naesen and Dewulf got the nod ahead of himself - even if all three have had much of a muchness results-wise through the season.

yeah, he probably isn't any worse, but the team seems to be mainly focused on O'Connor, so I guess it's somewhat understandable that they choose riders which are more willing to take a domestique's role without asking many questions.

#bikeexchange on the other hand really needs to hope for Groenewegen to deliver. Can't see many stages where Matthews won't lose out against the likes of WvA, Roglic or Pogacar in the end, and with Schultz as the only climber, it's obviously gonna be difficult in the mountains as well. Maybe Mezgec can win a stage from a breakaway

when someone has it, it will be added to the roadbooks thread:

There's also a mobile version for Android. Haven't tried, but maybe you can switch languages in that one:

The UCI updated rules for the new Covid wave.

    https://www.uci.org/pressrelease/covid-19-health-protocol-for-road-races-update-for-the-grand-tours/4026XA0Oq7ySwH0aUPiPL5

Among the main new provisions of the protocol, some are mandatory and others are strongly recommended.

    Quote
The mandatory measures are as follows:

        two days before the start of the race, presentation of at least one negative antigen test for all members of the teams (riders and staff);

on the rest days of the event (with the exception of any transfer days), a Covid-19 antigen test for all team members (riders and staff), as well as for Commissaires (International and National), UCI Technical Delegates and anti-doping control personnel.

In the event a case of Covid-19 within a team is confirmed by an antigen test then by a PCR test (whether a rider or a member of staff), the decision to potentially isolate the case shall be taken collectively by the team doctor concerned, the Covid-19 doctor for the event and the UCI Medical Director, on the basis of the clinical elements available.

    Strongly-recommended measures are as follows:

        during the five days preceding the race, daily antigen tests for all team members (riders and staff) in order to verify nobody is carrying the virus, which is essential for the constitution of the team bubble and the peloton bubble;

during the race - if possible daily but at least every two to three days -, antigen tests for team members (except riders), Commissaires (International and National), UCI Technical Delegates and anti-doping control personnel.
