Rides section
« on: May 29, 2012, 16:51 »
As a lot of people on here are mapmyfitness or strava'd up, could we have a rides sub forum for posting maps etc?

I dont mind trying to get it going.

Its for stuff like this...

http://road.cc/content/blog/58934-magic-mountains

Rides that we have done that might be of interest to others.

Well, to be quite honest I haven't ridden my bike in a while. Been quite busy, and with the awful weather this week plus having less time I prefer to go running rather than cycling. Plus, I have no clue what mapmyfitness and strava are.

Oh, and when I do ride, I do so in the Netherlands, with the only hill nearby the much-feared Kopje van Bloemendaal. Just to illustrate the hardship of riding in my area, a profile of this terrifying climb:

In other words.. I won't be very useful for this thread I fear ;) Though I do like the idea.

To post Strava maps, just add the embed URL (not the whole iframe string), like this:

    http: // app.strava.com / runs / 10747268 / embed / 3dba4981dcb60eac761b1500e0b0021bb301785c

(spaces added just to prevent automatic conversion of the example!)

Do you many of you have set loops that you ride for training?

I don't know why but I have stuck with some core laps for over 20 years now. I seem to be able to judge how well I am going or not by taking the same route.

I have a variety of loops i use depending on how i feel, how long i want to go for, time of day and traffic. But they are all largely based on same areas and use many of the same roads with minor variations.

However i do have one standard ride i try to do once a fornight or even once a week which i time for comparison. is 4 laps of local park with 2 larger laps featuring a hill and 2 smaller laps. use that as a measure of how i am going

although due to a knee / hamstring issue i have not ridden anywhere in over 3 months now so will not be posting anything here until a) that is fixed and b) the numbers look less humiliating when i restart. My ride figures are always humiliating but will share when i move beyond the pace of an 85 year old using a walker

    Jimmy started one here: http://velorooms.com/general-discussion/rides-section/

We had some embedding problems with Strava but it should work now.

A nice, shortish ride out and back from Boortmeerbeek, Flemish Brabant, through a Belgian cycling hotspot:

Similar chunk of Flemish Brabant - the Hageland - this one taking in some of the vineyards and orchards around Houwaart.
