Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

no.  He was pretty distressed when he fell ... I think he knew then that it was done.  He did get back on and keep going ... but I was kinda expecting the news.

peeed about Degenkolb though.  Pretty ordinary decision I thought

also Uran crashed on his (formerly injured) shoulder yesterday, but looked okay today - also Hirschi seems to be doing fine, although his picture, sitting on the floor (up there, next to Pinot) was in every French newspaper today ;)

Bernal has abandoned the race citing back and knee problems, but SDB insists he didn't gamble with his Tour team.
Just a thought with the benefit of hindsight, but might it not have turned out better if he had?

yeah, I dont know that it would have changed anything.

Its not like Ineos didnt have a really strong team.   Bernal, Carapaz, Kwiatkowski, Sivakov, Rowe (cant think of who else) .. but that is a team well capable of winning the Tour.  Well capable of supporting a team leader, and with a plan B ...

You cannot plan for everything.  You cant take 3 leaders and no domestiques into a Tour, and you cant do that much if your main riders crash on stage 1 and are finding it tough going.  That is just bike racing.

So whilst there are references to back and knee pain these come days after he told reporters he was feeling good and hitting his power numbers etc; and without any visible accident or injury.

The scale of time loss on Sunday for a GC contender and rider wearing #1 was of epic proportions; and perhaps no matter how hard he tried yesterday there was nothing that he could do to refocus; and what was there to refocus on?  Such an abject failure is probably best ended and moved on from in this way rather than slogging it out in the grupetto until Saturday.

Will be hilarious if TIG refocus EG alongside CF on Vuelta!
