    Interesting.
    The team manager just tweeted this: "We cannot provide a WT program yet, and he deserves every opportunity to follow his boy's dream." That sounds like he will be off to a bigger team indeed.
    https://twitter.com/Sykkelsjefen/status/1423517969397780480

    Now, on one hand, #unox has always been about developing riders, and they won't be stopping their riders if they get a WT offer.
    On the other hand, the team has announced that they want to become a WT team for 2023 themselves. - and for that you need a.o. WT-level riders.

    Will they simply 'buy back' Leknessund, Foss, Hoelgaard etc. by offering them a contract again when their current deals run out (but that's only at the end of 2022 for Leknessund and Foss)? You can't build a WT application on Ådne Holter, Lasse Norman Hansen, and Niklas Eg alone.

    Markus Hoelgaard isn´t a thoroughbred #unox Uno-X product. He is a few years older than Foss and Leknessund and he was a quite good rider already when he left #joker Team Joker (with which team he scored, for example, a 2nd GC in the Arctic Race, behind
    Sergey Chernietsky, two years ago already.
    Hoelgaard isn´t the typical young, developing, up-and-coming rider anymore, that was 2 years ago. Now he is 26, and it has been partly hidden behind a cloud of COVID and makeshift race participation schedules how good he is.

    As Markus Hoelgaard comes from the Stavanger area, comparisons with Aleksander Kristoff´s development seem justified. Kristoff was the late bloomer compared to EBH (same age). However, at 26, Kristoff was winning monuments. First step in that direction is to get to the start line, and with the number and quality of riders in the Pro Team level currently, Hoelgaard cannot count on getting to the start line in the races he would like to race for #unox Uno-X. Guaranteed team participation also offers the benefit of making it easier to plan the preparations and peak for the right races. The wild-card system at Pro Team level in this COVID day and age seems to require an «always prepared» approach which will negatively effect the top form.

    For Markus Hoelgaard, the time is now, he must go, and it will be very interesting to see how far he can make it. One thing for sure the #trek Trek-Segafredo classics departement will be super strong next year. It could actually be challenging to make the team selection for the desired list of races - that is the weak link in the plan. Hoelgaard is best in a protected role, and that requires some prioritization in the team. With Uno-x he has performed excellently in high-level races but less succesful in races at lower level and that has partly been attributed to the more chaotic and less organized nature of the racing at lower level.

    As for myself, I am looking forward to seeing him in Flanders this fall with the same jersey as Aleksander Kristoff  :P

    If the UCI site is to be believed, then Delko now only have 19 registered riders. Not allowed shirley for a Euro pro-team?
    Delko falling further apart:
    https://intermarche-wantygobert.eu/news/girmayhailu
    Biniam Girmay Hailu (who was de-registered with #delko at the end of May already) is now onboard with #iwg.

    He isn't - but even so, or arguably even more so, he's the kind of rider you'll want to keep (or reattract) if you want to get a WorldTour licence.

    Their women's team will get one of those for 2022, I am sure of that - but the men's team for 2023? I am much less certain that will work out.

    I agree with you on that, except I don´t think re-attract will work for most of their good riders. You will probably most often  see a rider that is a captain with uno-x leave for a domestique role with a larger team and that means they will score a lot less points in the year or years when they are not with Uno-x. They cannot expect to get back the same number of ranking points that they send away.

    There's unlikely to be a Giro wildcard waiting for Eddy, but I can see this transfer being a good move for both parties.

    a bit surprisingly. Zoncolan winner Lorenzo Fortunato stays with #eolo Eolo for another two years at least

    "After my victories, many teams became interested in signing me, including some from the World Tour. They made me good offers, but my idea was to stay with Eolo Kometa from the start, and we came to a to a satisfactory agreement. It was them who made me grow as a rider, I won because of the team, and for me it was important to stay where I am."

    Surprising indeed - but the team is rumoured to have a new, bigger sponsor coming in. That will have helped.

    Also, the Emiratis have signed yet another rider:

    For what it is worth, that is one ambitious pro-conti team that keeps riders with ranking points in their team for the next year.

    As we have seen there are other teams that let them go, time will show what works better in the longer term. Clearly different strategies, at least.

    Speaking of which, we now have confirmation that four riders are leaving Uno-X (almost certainly to the WorldTour):

    #vorarlberg Alexis Guerin has a contract with Vorarlberg for another year, but could move up if there's an option to. Currently his agent is in talks with several teams (among others #uae UAE, according to Cyclismactu's sources)

    https://www.cyclismactu.net/news-itw-alexis-gu-rin-uae-avec-tadej-pogacar-ce-serait-le-r-ve-socialnetwork-104539.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook&fbclid=IwAR24j9xklrKf0q9RCsNbvIGo7thUPnaBkC9ApOndtAKOsLfYBA-Amxm-72c

    that's probably more the rider Cofidis should try to get on board...

    another interesting one, meaning Lotto loses one more of their better riders

    #lotto Stefano Oldani --> #alpecin Alpecin Fenix

    can't really see much room for him on Alpecin's squad, but well...who knows. Maybe they'll find some more .1 races they want to score points at.

    https://www.equipecofidis.com/fr/actualites/2021-08-16/saison-2022-2023-davide-cimolai-un-coureur-d-experience-chez-cofidis

    Simone Consonni will stay with the team, and move from Viviani's train to Coquard's, together with Cimolai. The other Italians are not mentioned, so I guess they (both Viviani brothers + Sabatini) will all leave

    The other big sponsor, KMG will earn more money with the current oil price compared with the last few years, and may have deeper pockets now. In theory, that means more ability to invest in projects like cycling teams etc. However, a state oil company´s income is one thing, how much they get to keep is another thing. They also fund the glorious republic of Khazakstan in general, Oliver Stone films and a few other projects as deemed necessary by the great leader and president of the nation.

    seems like it's not looking too bad for Astana indeed. Some rumoured transfers from today (Gazzetta & Cycling Podcast):

    #trek Vincenzo Nibali
    #ineos Gianni Moscon
    #uae Valerio Conti
    #uae Joe Dombrowski
    --> #astana Astana ?!?

    Nibali's 2nd option apparently is #bikeexchange Greenedge

    quite an intersting interview with #uae Mauro Gianetti

    https://bici.pro/news/professionisti/uae-sempre-squadrone-caro-gianetti-succede/

    he says the budget of the team is still not as high as Jumbo's or Ineos', riders mainly sign with them for the structures and opportunities they offer. Hodeg will basically take Richeze's place, who is likely to retire at the end of the season. Together with Groß he can be part of Ackermann's leadout train, but also support Trentin on the cobbles.

    The program of the new climbers on the roster is not yet determined yet. George Bennett is likely to get a role in Pogacar's support team, and may also bring in some secrets from #jumbo about training, nutrition and so on.

    I am struggling with the "like" for this report after seeing how much Andreas Leknessund's development has slowed down after the transfer to DSM. However, it is unlikley Jonas would follow if Andreas didn't have an ok time after all. They know each other so well[1], it wouldn't be a secret if one of them wasn't content with their work situation.

    On the positive side, looking forward to seeing the quarantine collective strike again! Arrival of a good friend as a teammate can often help to turn things around.

    Second thing I struggle with, if all the most talented riders from uno-x go to the established WT team that already resembles them the most, they will be competing for all the same places in the WT peloton  (because  similar teams have to do that) with weaker riders. Uno-X like to talk about the next step but in this case I struggle to see that they really have a strategy to move up the ladder. Theoretically it could work if DSM starts performing at Quickstep level, but....

    I hear you.
    But as you say, if Leknessund was unhappy, he would tell his mate about it.

    And maybe the #dsm niche is for a young rider to 'stagnate' there results-wise, but develop as a rider, then sign the next contract elsewhere and get the big results ... or get a big result at DSM already, get big-money offers, and run. :P

    quite an intersting interview with #uae Mauro Gianetti

    [...] Hodeg will basically take Richeze's place, who is likely to retire at the end of the season.

    Richeze will leave #uae UAE indeed, but doesn't plan to retire yet. He is looking for a job as final leadout man elsewhere

    according to team boss Hilaire van der Schueren, #iwg Wanty is "looking for French riders, because of sponsor Intermarché". First rumour:

    (tbc) #total Adrien Petit --> #iwg Intermarché-Wanty Gobert

    meanwhile, #cofidis Laporte and #lotto Tosh were confirmed to join #jumbo

    I'd be very surprised if buying Androni/Bardiani rejects leads to much success.

    this comes unexpected. Although it makes kinda sense, with Irizar as a DS

    #cajarural Jon Aberasturi --> #trek Trek-Segafredo

    https://racing.trekbikes.com/stories/trek-segafredo-men/jon-signs

    Meanwhile Magnus Sheffield has left #rally Rally, as of last week

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CTDThpAFc7X/

    Going by the amount of #ineos Ineos riders and sponsors he recently has followed, that's probably where he'll end up instead.

    During yesterday's Deutschland Tour coverage, Ludewig also confirmed that Ben Tulett "in all likelihood" will leave #alpecin Alpecin. Same direction, I guess?!
