Just looking at those women's results made me think. Why are good female Belgian cyclists so lacking in number?

Obviously on the men's side we are used to having some of the biggest names come from Belgium and it seems that every WT team worth it's salt has a couple of them kicking around. A win tomorrow would be no big surprise.

Meanwhile over in the women's scene, how many Belgians are in the WT? One, that's right just one. Best placed rider today? That same one rider down in 50th at 14m01.

Now there have been good Belgian riders in the past and the WT stat doesn't tell the full story as it's only 8 teams and there are more than a few Belgian riders and teams in the CT ranks, but the discrepancy between the two sexes just seems weird.

What's going on here? It can't be genetic (obviously). Cultural? The women's sport developing differently? I need educating Fus!
