Kevin Rivera will debut for #bardiani Bardiani to grab the first opportunity to fight his old Androni team mates. ;)

Same as some others (like Ciccone) he had a nose operation at the end of the season, allowing him to breath more freely

It's a very good field this year.

    Vazquez (winner of Guatemala '20)
    Jurado
    Munoz
    Restrepo
    Canaveral
    Rivera
    Guama
    Lopez
    Duarte
    Sevilla

.....and that's just l'etranger. The riders that will be missed most are the local talents, Aular and Quintero who are in preparation for the European and Asian seasons. No sign of Rujano Jr on the First start-list yet, but at the end of December he did say " My current program is to do the Vuelta al Táchira and then to take a plane to Europe (to ride for his Spanish club) ".

Same as some others (like Ciccone) he had a nose operation at the end of the season, allowing him to breath more freely

    My prophecy is coming true!

Black Spoke gain revenge somewhat for the NZCC.

It would be no big surprise if 4th placed finisher FFB was in the main Jumbo team sooner rather than later due to Dumoulin's unexpected sabbatical (plus Wynants and Martens stopping mid-season).

Campos repeats his triumph of last year. Rumours of him heading to Portugal to ride for Louletano.

Decent race for Androni with a couple of stage wins, but while Munoz and Umba both finished top-5 in the GC, neither looked likely to challenge the top dogs.

Bardiani were much less successful (plus ca change!). Best finisher was Monaco at ~1h30 down with Rivera just behind. A couple of stage podiums was all they had to write home about.

    Istarsko Proljece 11th - 14th March

    Prologue » Umag TT (2km)

Very non-techncial. A hairpin and just one other real corner to worry about.

    Stage 1 » Funtana › Porec (166km)

    Stage 2 » Vizinada › Motovun (165km)

Previous winners at Motovun include Mugerli (Pogacar third), Tusveld, Eibegger and Magnus Cort way back 2014.

    Stage 3 » Marcana › Umag (141km)

Very incomplete so far, but we can imagine the teams will be virtually identical to the ones at Umag and Porec.

    Speaking of those races....

Those results probably won't help us find the GC winner, but a stage win or two may come from those riders who did well above.

    Very incomplete so far.

.....and it still is. Tut tut. Here's the prologue start order in the meantime:

Who's gonna win today? Dunno. Some sprinters will no doubt be up there.

If you are wanting to follow this race then Kern have very smartly made a Twitter list of what competing teams they can find. It looks like they have done this for all races they have been in (and added the organizer where they have a twitter presence). Could be handy in smaller races like this where there is no real ticker.

There was a bit of a shortening of today's course, but you might have guessed that already as 2km with these times would have meant speeds approaching 100km/h and even WVA and MVDP can't do that (yet).

Poor weather is mentioned as a possibility for tomorrow.  :onfire2

Mareczko actually made it over the final climb (well he had to honour the KoM jersey that he was wearing after the prologue!), but the massive crash (at 80km/h according to some reports) put paid to a lot plans for more than a few riders. The rain and sheer number of teams no doubt played a part in the crash, but just thinking back to the Tour of Croatia, it always (anecdotally) seemed to attract crashes or near misses in the finale.

Bardiani are racking up the early season wins.

Very tight heading into the final stage. Two seconds covers the top-three, but unless the weather helps it's difficult to see changes happening.

According to the race Facebook FFB won the first sprint, but as there are three sprints in total, I don't know if this one conferred bonus seconds or not. Bit strange if it did and nobody from Bardiani tried to stop him.

Too many sprint stages in a row!
The effect is, every day the leadout phase becomes more combative with shoulders, heads, hands and blocking moves. The young and relatively ineperienced #unox crew seems to suffer from this. Every day they get pushed a little bit more out of position. If you can´t be #quickstep Quickstep, the old #cofidis Cofidis train with Geoffrey Soupe pushing left and right to make way for Bouhanni to enter the fight would be the best to bring here!

Three pasty white wins in Portugal - Murphy, Hollyman and King!? What's happening to the world.

Admittedly they have all been from the break, but it still feels unusual. Most of the untanned victories in the past years have been sprint or prologues (McLay, Bauhaus etc).

Direct Velo will have a ticker for the race.

    Favourites?

    Hmmmm. Dunno.

#dds Hayter fresh off his LBL U23 win, but others in the team could do well too.

    #leopard Maas is very consistent.

#riwal Van der Lijke and Elmo Reinders are a very dangerous duo. If I had to pick a winner it would be one of these two.

#dinan Le Bon had a rather poor holiday in Cambodia, but has been hoovering up the wins in the French amateur scene.

There are others to watch as well for several reasons. Gate, Chainel, Dlamini slumming it with the devo team, Pickrell and the devo teams of AG2R and Lotto.
