The 2022 Auto-Wildcard Race
« on: March 09, 2021, 09:31 »
As long as no WT team disappears at the end of the season then there is only one golden ticket to all WT events and one silver ticket for all 1-day WT races.

 #alpecin 775
--------------------------
 #arkea 508
--------------------------
 #total 366
 #bingoal 319
 #nippo 238
 #bbhotels 217
 #bardiani 167
 #cajarural 160
 #unox 146
 #vlaanderen 143
 #kern 124

A familiar look to the top of the table. Alpecin got off to a very slow start last year, so it is ominous that they are already on top this time round. Could they be out of sight by the end of the month?

Total are doing okay in third, but it's not because of their raft of new signings. None of them have been impressing too much so far.

-------------------------------

We are now also into the second year of the three year competition to see who will or won't be WT from 2023 onwards (of course the UCI could fudge things again ie. nothing is guaranteed here). I can't be bothered just at the moment doing the required calculations, but currently I think it's very close at the bottom between Movistar, Cofidis, Intermarche, Qhubeka and I-SUN. Three of those five could be relegated, but of course others could be dragged in.

Any tension in this particular competition went out the door a long time ago. Well, tension for the first prize. Things are more interesting in the battle for second.

Alpecin are fourth(!) in the overall competition.

Post-Giro is as good as time as any for an update.

Alpecin are down to sixth in the overall ranking. Ol' Caja are one of the biggest movers with Lastra in particular picking up some good points in the rescheduled Iberian races recently.

Not much of interest. Uno-X moved up a few spots, but the gaps toward the top were either extended or maintained.
